Name?

Rudy Ramos

Where do you live?

The city so nice they named it twice: New York, New York

What do you do?

To make money? Boring Stuff.

For a living? Rad Stuff.

You know that eyes-rolled-back-into-your-head-cant-help-but-moan feeling you get when you eat something delicious? That’s what I want EVERYDAY of my life.

What does veganism mean to you?

To me veganism is more than just a diet; it is a culture of compassion. Much like Hip Hop encompasses more than just ‘rhyming words’ – veganism is more than simply eating a ‘certain way’. It informs my life and engenders the person I strive to be on a daily basis.

With that said, I sure do like the eating part of veganism a whole lot!

What is your most memorable dining/eating experience?

I’m trying so hard not to sound cliché’ but every time I cook I try to make *that* the most memorable dining experience ever. To me it’s about the food above all. You know that eyes-rolled-back-into-your-head-cant-help-but-moan feeling you get when you eat something delicious? That’s what I want EVERYDAY of my life. To me that trumps any pomp and circumstance; I don’t need a nice view or fancy restaurant for that. If I can get that feeling I’d be just happy in the basement of the first Saw movie. (Just don’t make me cut off my leg to have it!)

Cooking for myself is boring; I would much rather cook for others. I take great joy in feeding those I care about.

If you could invite 3 people (historical or current) to dinner who would they be?

This was probably the most difficult question to answer. Often, those we admire from afar rarely live up to the expectations we have in our head. I would likely pick a few people I’m close to and cook for them, probably pull out all the stops food-wise and listen to some good tunes. Besides, most of the people I admire are dead and zombies are no fun at dinner parties.

What would you serve?

To zombies? Grainssss! In all serious, I would more than likely take a consensus of what they wanted to eat and adapt accordingly. Cooking for myself is boring; I would much rather cook for others. I take great joy in feeding those I care about. If I can get them to that feeling I described in my answer for Question 5, then I’m a happy man!

Sweet or savoury?

For me it’s savoury all the way. Crispy Salty French Fries for the win! But I like cake too! A cake made out of crispy salty French fries perhaps?

Where is your favourite food destination?

Any vegan kitchen with a stocked fridge, legit pantry, full spice rack, some decent pots and pans and a chef’s knife (and full permission to use it of course)

If we’re talking travel, any city with good vegan food I have yet to try. I’m like the Terminator from the first movie – just replace Sarah Connor with vegan food.

What’s your speciality dish?

I have gone on record that my version of tofu scramble (tofuevos) is the best ever. It is. Not a doubt. You wanna fight about it?

What food best describes your personality?

Cilantro! Some people love me, others have no opinion and there are select few that hate me with a passion.

You can’t hate on life when you’re eating tacos – no matter what the weather.

What’s your favourite thing to eat on a hot summers day?

Am I outside on this hot summer’s day? If that’s the case, I’ll have vegan tacos. You can’t hate on life when you’re eating tacos – no matter what the weather.

Cold winters night?

See above!

If you were a vegetable what would you be?

An Avocado. Beneath an unappealing exterior lays something so vibrant, lush and delicious. Look even deeper – the key to make more. Plus it’s squishy – who doesn’t like squishy?

Stay Vegan. Do Rad Things.

Describe a normal day in the life of Rudy.

One thing that most people don’t know about me is that I thrive on a mostly raw diet. So, that means lots of juice, fruit, nuts etc. So, naturally, most of my day is spent thinking about what sort of (cooked) deliciousness I’ll be putting in my belly later.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

5 Words: Taco Bell Secret Vegan Menu

What did you have for breakfast?

A Green Juice, a banana and a raw bar.

You’re on death row and it’s your last meal. What do you eat?

My initial reaction to this question was: Hang Out With Dr Dre. If we’re talking last meal ever, then definitely a vegan burrito! But it would have to be the size of a house and have all my favourite things in it. And, I mean, literally the size of a house; tortilla flap door, Guacamole lawn and a taquito swing set for the kids to play on. Think of the kids!

What are your plans for 2015?

Stay Vegan. Do Rad Things.

Anything else you’d like to add?

Stay Vegan. Do Rad Things. Oh! And thanks Forkin’ Vegan!
