Where do you live?
What do you do?
We create delicious raw vegan cakes for special occasions and distribute to six of the best cafes in Geelong. We also create vegan recipes and have just started our blog and Youtube Channel.
What did you have for breakfast?
Berry and Banana smoothies with some of our homemade breaky bars
When and why did you decide to go vegan?
Two years ago we started by doing a vegan week challenge, we both felt incredible after a week so just continued to eat a plant based vegan diet. Over that period of time we educated ourselves on the reasons for people to live a vegan lifestyle, we now are vegan for our health, for the environment and for the animals.
What does veganism mean to you?
Living in the most peaceful, happiest, healthiest way possible.
Describe a normal day in the life of Adele & Shane.
We wake up and let Lily in for a cuddle, we then go for a run around our beautiful Geelong Waterfront and Botanical Gardens. Shane creates his delicious raw vegan desserts at our friend’s café- Winifreds. I work as a Practice Manager at Body Recon, I’m a Dermal Therapist and specialise in Aesthetic and Dermatology Laser Therapies. When we get home we often go to the gym for a quick workout and sit down and catch up over dinner- often this is a long process as we love to cook and create, then followed by photos and jotting down our recipes. We then usually do some admin work- replying to emails, posting and writing up recipes, managing our orders and website. We then cuddle on the couch watching an episode of our favourite TV show (it changes regularly but we are currently watching season 1 of Game of Thrones- again)
What food best describes your personality?
A pineapple-which is why it’s our logo! We are both blonde’s, happy and fun, love the tropics, can be enjoyed any time of the day or night, nice and sweet, and in Shane’s case- can be a little bit tarty (haha)
Sweet or savoury?
We are the ultimate team- Shane is the sweet master and me the savoury queen.
What is your most memorable dining/eating experience?
For our 5th year wedding anniversary we had celebrity chef Aaron Turner from Igni (formerly Loam) create an 8 course vegan degustation for us. It was simply incredible.
What is your favourite song/album to listen to in the kitchen while cooking?
I’m a bit embarrassed to admit- I love listening to gangster rap or RNB, I love Candy Shop Radio on Spotify so basically anything 50 Cent, Drake or RNB Fridays- it’s my pump up music haha. Shane often listens to Indie chill out music and likes to just relax when he cooks.
What is your speciality dish?
My signature dish is my vegan bolognese with zoodles. It’s jam packed with veggies and is a winner for vegans, omni’s plus kids of all ages. Before owning his own cafes, Shane was a qualified chef, he does a delicious veggie risotto and obviously his raw vegan desserts are incredible. Recently he made me a raw vegan Skittles cake for my birthday; his raw vegan choc mint cake is very popular too.
If you could invite 3 people (historical or current) to dinner who would they be?
1- Shane (obviously) my best friend, husband and soulmate,
2- Sam from @sobeautifullyraw I love her delicious recipes, her food philosophy, positivity. I really try to emulate her in a sense of just influencing people- vegans and omni’s by showing you CAN create delicious plant based magic.
3- My older brother Clint, who was my influence in becoming vegan. He’s very motivating and always makes me strive to better myself and my life, He’s also, like the rest of my family- my biggest fan and best friend.
What would you serve?
I would make my Vegan Beet Burger that’s currently been served at King of The Castle on Pakington Street, Geelong West. I also make my own vegan American cheddar sauce that’s so gooey and oozy it just about puts you in a food coma.
Where is your favourite food destination?
I have been lucky enough to travel for my work, June this year we did a Europe trip, of that- Slovenia, Berlin and Amsterdam were very good for vegan food and fresh produce. Vietnam and Bali are also very vegan friendly with ample vegan restaurants/cafes and an abundance of fresh fruit. Melbourne really is amazing too; we have so many great vegan places. Geelong is improving too we now have vegan venues but majority of cafes and restaurants now have vegan menu items too, which makes me really proud to think it’s changing.
What is your favourite thing to eat on a hot summers day?
I love making my own water keifer that we purchased from Hillbilly Culture. They also do a mad hot fire tonic! Teamed with a fresh crisp salad loaded with veggies.
On a cold winters night?
Nothing beats vegan pho! We often eat out at our favourite Vietnamese restaurant but I also make my own with my own veggie pho stock from the slow cooker filled with lots of herbs spices and chilli.
Describe your perfect day.
We would take Lily down the coast and go exploring in the Otways- hiking to Erskine Falls then make our way to the beach where we would go for a swim and have a picnic lunch at the beach. Shane’s perfect day would also require lots of coffee.
You’ve been asked to contribute a recipe to an upcoming cookbook. What is it?
Ooooo so many to choose from! My Vegan Red Curry Soup is really popular and super easy to make, perfect for any time of the year. You will just have to watch this space and actually get a copy of our up coming cookbook 😉
If you were a vegetable what would you be?
I’d have to say beetroot, as they are our favourites and so iconically Australian! Who else puts beetroot in burgers- only Aussies!
How do you think we can each make the world a better place?
By leading by example. I’m a believer in influencing people by living to the best of your abilities. If you can inspire people with your kindness, positivity and happiness it will have a butterfly effect.
What is your guilty pleasure?
I am obsessed with Shane’s Raw Vegan Nuttella Cake. I’m also guilty of eating the white chocolate he makes to decorate his Raspberry White Choc Cake- but don’t tell him.
You’re on death row and it’s your last meal. What do you eat?
The vegan pizza we had at a restaurant called Pizzeria Foculus in Ljubijana Slovenia, followed by Shane’s Tiramisu Raw Vegan Cake.
What are your plans for 2016?
We want to keep posting on our Youtube channel, develop our website further and begin plans for our cookbook/ebook. Travel and explore the world and our local area. We also want to continue to create vegan desserts and menu items for cafes in Geelong to encourage people to enjoy vegan cuisine.
