Where do you live?
Toronto, ON. Canada
What do you do?
I am a stay at home Mom to my awesome vegan baby, Everest!
I think it would be an artichoke. People either love artichokes or hate them.
What does veganism mean to you?
Veganism to me means peace and non-violence. It means celebrating and cherishing all life. It means realising that we are not better than any species and that animals are not our to use in ANY capacity. Lastly, it means leaving a better world for my daughter and any other children I may have.
What is your most memorable dining/eating experience?
My first dinner at my in-laws after announcing I was vegan. I was given a philo-pastry with raw cherry tomatoes in it, and the pastry had butter in it! So I sat and ate cherry tomatoes. Since then my MIL has significantly improved with her vegan cooking and both my husband’s family and my own have been very supportive and accommodating!
If you could invite 3 people (historical or current) to dinner who would they be?
Nooooo, this is WAY too hard! I am going to stick with all historical because if I went with people who are alive there is no way I could decide. I would go with: Donald Watson (the founder of veganism), Leonardo Da Vinci and Nikola Tesla. Wait, actually, I change my mind. I would choose: my husband’s grandfather (his mother’s father), my grandfather (my Mom’s Dad) and my Nana (my Dad’s Mom).
What would you serve?
An epic vegan feast! Pasta, pizza, delicious salads!
Sweet or savoury?
Where is your favourite food destination?
Well, I’ve never been, but I would say India. I love their cuisine.
What’s your speciality dish?
My vegan pad Thai is probably my biggest hit.
What food best describes your personality?
I was talking about this with my good friend, Margaret, the other day. I think it would be an artichoke. People either love artichokes or hate them. I have one of those personalities. I’m very polarising.
What’s your favourite thing to eat on a hot summers day?
Mangoes. Juicy, delicious, mangoes. Ugh, now I want one!
Cold winters night?
A spicy curry with sweet potatoes and peas. Now I want curry too!
This interview is making me super hungry!
If you were a vegetable what would you be?
Describe a normal day in the life of Andrea.
I am woken up by my precious baby girl. We go downstairs and I feed her adopted fur siblings, Duchess and Duke. I get her cloth diapers prepped for the day, consume some caffeine, pump and freeze some breastmilk for a lovely vegan boy whose Mama is unable to breastfeed, attempt to clean up whatever mess is left from the previous evening. We play and giggle until it is time for her first nap. Once she is asleep I run around the house and try to accomplish some cleaning. Vacuuming, folding laundry, cleaning toilets, freshening the cat’s litter boxes. I shove food in my face and brush my teeth, if I am lucky. She wakes up, we play and giggle until it is time for our next nap… and the cycle continues. Riveting, eh? There are lots of poopy diapers in there and I am usually thrown up on at some point. It is super glamourous! Some days I am able to workout and post a fitness video to my youtube channel, funfitnesshealth, or film a vlog for my other channel, Vegan Pregnancy and Parenting. It isn’t for everyone but I love being a SAHM, I have always wanted to be one and I can’t imagine my life being anything else
I am determined to get strong again! I also hope to inspire many people to eat plants and not pain
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Falafel pita sandwiches with tons of hummus and tahina sauce, onions, pickles and tomatoes. Oh, and chips, I am a sucker for chips. This interview is making me super hungry!
What did you have for breakfast?
A massive smoothie with bananas, mangoes, spinach and hemp seeds and fresh medjool dates. I have this for breakfast basically every day.
You’re on death row and it’s your last meal. What do you eat?
Definitely that falafel sandwich I mentioned above and a whole bunch of mangoes for dessert.
What are your plans for 2015?
My plans are to get my butt back into shape. I am an athlete at heart and pregnancy really did a doozy on me. I gained way too much weight and lost all my muscle toning. I am determined to get strong again! I also hope to inspire many people to eat plants and not pain, to go vegan and stay vegan.
Anything else you’d like to add?
If you aren’t already, PLEASE go vegan!
