Interview by Natalie Tabone
A big thanks goes to Rishi’s friend for the photos
David. But I go by my Sanskrit name ‘Rishi’ (given to me by the Swami Satsungi)
Where do you live?
Currently, in the northside of Melbourne…actually I’ve always been in the north 🙂
What do you do?
I’m a baker and toaster of gluten-free sourdough breads 😉
Also, father to an amazing little being, Melalukah
What does veganism mean to you?
Minimisation of harm. Lower footprint. Moral obligation to cherish life on earth, to which we are intrinsically linked.
Plus vegans are hot!
What is your most memorable dining/eating experience?
Lentil as Anything- Abbotsford buffet. I think ‘pay as you feel’ is the best thing Melbourne has EVER seen!
If you could invite 3 people (historical or current) to dinner who would they be?
What would you serve?
Probably a selection of dips and breads with raw veggies on the side…and maybe some kale chips!
Sweet or savoury?
Where is your favourite food destination?
Las Vegan Café, when it was happenin’. But now, its gotta be Lentil as Anything. I cannot go past it.
What’s your speciality dish?
Beside gourmet cheese toasties I do a pretty wild beet, onion cabbage, carrot, tahini and lentil salad!
What food best describes your personality?
Falafel. I’m not going to say why.
What’s your favourite thing to eat on a hot summers day?
Cold winters night?
Home made pizza or soup
If you were a vegetable what would you be?
I’d like to think of myself as a snow pea, but in reality i’m probably more like ginger.
Describe a normal day in the life of Rishi.
Wake, yoga, shower, breakfast, hang out with daughter, prep for baking, make toasties, talk talk talk talk…..bake bread. Come home, eat, hang out with daughter, sleep.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Eating mock meats in Brunswick
What did you have for breakfast?
10 bananas and a punnet of strawberries 😉
You’re on death row and it’s your last meal. What do you eat?
Three falafel wraps from Half Moon café, and a full sized cashew cream cheese and carrot cake!
What are your plans for 2015?
To launch my range of Little Earth Bakery gluten free sourdough breads and to keep promoting good vibes in the community 🙂
Anything else you’d like to add?
This has been fun, but would have been heaps funner to do it face to face!
